Having Fun Without Having a Sweat
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
It’s been a while since my grandparents visited us and I guess the most recent one was during Thanksgiving Day. As much as we want to bond with them everyday, we just have to wait for another year to be with them; they can no longer stand traveling long distance for hours. However, it’s not Thanksgiving Day yet but they are going to stay in our home until that season….so thanks to that….
On the other hand, we have to take several considerations before we get too excited in spending time with them. Of course they can’t do hiking or ice skating like we do, so we have to be careful on our planned activity. Fortunately, this isn’t going to be an issue for us, thanks to my mother’s zillion ideas.
-
Picnic…. Yes, we plan to have a nice picnic in the park. It sounds too cheesy for someone like me, but I don’t mind being that way as long as I get to bond with my beloved grandparents. There will be well-prepared meals and nicely-packed picnic items for us to enjoy.
-
Taking a walk. If you are just going to perceive it as it is, this idea will seem to be very dull. But walking is a healthy way to ease some troubles in the heart…. and a good way to bond with someone. It’s a healthy habit in every way as it promotes your physical, emotional, and social improvement.
-
Doing something creative. Stretching our creative muscles while bonding with my grandparents is something that I enjoy the most. We once did a hand-made photo display using jars and ribbons. Of course it’s enjoyable with our combined creativity shared with little talks and laughters.

Safe Shopping
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
My grandmother and I have done a lot of stuff together like watching old movies (yes I love the classics), decorating mugs, and even shopping. She used to be a shopaholic back in her younger years, but since her body has started to get weak, she can no longer shop like the she used to. She can no longer stand walking for a long time, and sometimes, her legs hurt while we’re digging our heads on a pile of clothes. During these times, we have to wait for a week or two to get back to our shopping activities because she needs to rest. And knowing how shopaholic she is, that must be gravely terrible for her.
If you have the same situation as ours, well, don’t despair. There are some ways to continue shopping without actually getting tired from it…. Here are some of the things that I can share with you to help you out with your shopping problems with your grandma.

-
Accompany her. Let’s face it… We young ones are physically stronger and our grandparents can not endure long activities… even if they are just walking and picking up clothes. Since we are the ones that they rely on, accompanying them is the best way to help them out. We should be carrying their shopping bags and get the clothes from its pile instead of them doing the work. Besides, this can be one of the ways to return the love of taking care of our parents when they’re just kids…. and even us….
-
Do them a favor. As I said, their bodies can no longer handle tiring activities, maybe you should be the one to take the action. Shop for them…. Just ask for their preferences and do the shopping yourself. You might not have a company with you and get tired, but once you see your grandma smiling at you when you get back home, I bet everything will be worth it.
-
Shop on-line. There are loads of websites that caters shopping like ebay.com and amazon.com. In this way, you can shop any clothes, shoes, kitchen ware, DVDs, CDs, and books without breaking a sweat.

How to Deal with that Latest Machine
Filed Under Technology | Leave a Comment
Does it seem like the world is filled with “machines?” There is this “rectangular device” that can deliver messages in just a few seconds. And there is this “box” that has colorful images and can let you type thousands of texts more accurately than the typewriter…. Well actually, that “rectangular device” is called a cellular phone and that “box” is called computer.
If this doesn’t ring you any bells, grannies, then that means that you are stuck in the old civilization. But then again, even if you don’t know anything about it, it still gets your full attention with their polished appearance and extraordinary features. With your sparkling interest, you want buy one. But before doing so, be sure that you don’t know how to use it, otherwise your new gadget won’t be useful to you…. So, before you get exited for being one of the “in crowd,” I suggest you take these three simple reminders to save you from being lost in the world of technology.

-
Ask an expert. Well this “expert,” doesn’t have to be a technology pro. It can be your teenage granddaughters or grandson, or even your offspring. Teenagers and the middle-aged are the common users of modern devices like cell phone due to their needs. So, they may be expert on that, and may you help you understand about technology vocabulary like “memory card,” “USB,” and “gig.”
-
Read the manual. Manuals are given when you purchase a product. These contain easy-to-understand instructions that act as your guide in using your new modern possessions.
-
Research. If you are somewhat confused with the manual of your gadget, then you can research. I’m sure there are lots of information you can gather regarding it. On the other hand, your research doesn’t have to be an extensive one. It can only include raising questions to the product manager or even the sales representative of the product. I bet they are geared with a load of information to help you out.

Oldies but Goodies

Guitar screeching like tires, voice singing like a lion’s roar – these are what the kids call “music” today. It’s really annoying especially when they can’t say anything but their hatred toward each other and their forsaken lives. There aren’t any feel-good music like the way Engelbert Humperdinck hums his melody and how Frank Sinatra…. wait a minute, why do I have to simply reminisce such songs when I can actually listen to them? Ah, this will surely bring back the old times for sure….
And while I listen to this beautiful melody, here are some of the greatest balladeers back in our time… The ones whom I think can create real music….

Engelbert Humperdinck – The man behind the song “Green Green Grass of Home….” His voice has a melancholic impression that can swing you to a pool of emotions.

Frank Sinatra – The only guy who can sing “My Way.” He’s a legendary balladeer whose songs have touched thousand of couples. His songs speak what what’s love all about, and what it can do to those who experience it.

The Platters – a group who popularized “Only You.” The combination of their beautiful voices made them a hit, making one famous song after another. Whether they are singing with the notes of saxophone, piano, or just an A cappella, they can surely hit your emotions with their powerful and melodic tones.

Nat “King” Cole – His way of singing is similar to Frank Sinatra’s. One of his all-time favorite classic is “When I Fall in Love,” which is still played during special occasions like anniversaries and Valentine’s Day. He’s a true balladeer who can sing any song of the heart.

Elvis Presley – The king of Rock and Roll, here. Though he’s music are far different from the others mentioned above, Elvis is also a man of legend. His style is still used by his fans and his songs are kept playing in the radio and in the bars…. a proof that Elvis’ music and personality are very much alive and kicking.

Memory Lane of Movies
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
A romantic comedy film where the romance among the lead actors starts naturally, then at the middle, one or even the both of them experience heartbreak but they manage to reconcile and have a wonderful relationship together…. A suspense thriller movie that shows how the lead actress/actor survives a brutal murder after his/her friends get all killed….
“Heck, movies these days have patterns and predictable outcomes.” You think about this idea while you watch how Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore develop a romantic bond between them. And then you recall the old movies back in your time…. You just can’t help but compare the films from two different generations. You think, “Those old movies…. if they were just shown today….”
Since you are flooded with modern Hollywood films and celebrity gossips, let me give you a break from them by bringing you into the memory lane of classic films that once hit the box office.

The Ten Commandments – Yul Bryner and Charlton Heston are quite befitting to depict Ramses and Moses in this 1956 film The Ten Commandments. This classic portrays how Moses lived in a world of prestige and glamor that he eventually left behind to follow his calling as the leader who would free the slaves in the hands of Ramses. And this went on until he received the Ten Commandments from God. Combined with the beauty of Anne Baxter, the film also showcases a passionate romance as she plays the role of Nefertari.

Casablanca – The memory lane brings us to 1942. Considered as “the greatest love story of all time,” Casablanca is a love triangle amidst the Second World War. Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid are the actors here, who were trapped in a whirlwind romance. Their romantic chaos is a mixture of happiness, guilt, heartbreak, betrayal, and passion.

The Sound of Music – The year is 1965. A fun musical film starring Julie Andrews as Maria. Her angelic voice never fails to leave the audience in awe, especially when she adds her great acting skills to her superb singing flair. This family-friendly film shows how Maria kept the von Trapp family happy with her cheerful and warm personality, and later how she and Captain George von Trapp fell in love.

The Wizard of Oz - “Follow the yellow-bricked road” and you’ll find The Wizard of Oz. It’s a classic movie that the young ones and the young at heart will surely enjoy. Mixed with music, humor, and profound lessons, the adventures of Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Toto are all-time favorite.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Who wouldn’t fall in love with the timeless beauty of Audrey Hepburn? Her innate sophistication and glamor shine in this film as she plays Holly, a socialite beauty who then meets Paul, played by George Peppard. It’s fun and romantic, with the elegance of Audrey and charisma of Geroge.

Fabolous Grandpa

Looking too gray? Hey, maybe you should try brightening up your looks by choosing for the right outfit. And don’t worry because fashion is not just for women and the young. Of course you can be as good-looking as them too. With this simple recommendations, you will absolutely look younger and fresher.
Shirts – Throw those formal-looking polos and polo shirts in your closet. It’s time to wear Tees like you used to back when you were younger…. Of course, there are less hip-hopish shirts that won’t make you look like you’re a teenager-wannabe. There are bright, well-designed t-shirts that can fit your age without making you look too old and too formal….
Jeans – Shirts go well with jeans. Since you are aiming for a nice t-shirt, you might as well look for a nice pair of jeans. But remember that you are looking for the one that will fit you right…. not too tight and definitely not a baggy one…. you don’t want to look like a senior counterpart of Eminem, do you?

Sneakers – Yes, grandpa, sneakers are not just for teenagers. There are lots of shoes that look simple, yet stylish. Sneakers are best worn during outdoor activities so you should also look for quality pair that can withstand long walks and long jogs.
Caps – I guess this will be the last one to complete your look. It is not just an accessory among males but also has a better purpose of protecting your head against the heat.
With these recommended clothes for you grandpa, you’ll get a much laid-back look compared to your plain and formal aura with your old polo shirts, linen or cotton pants, and leather shoes. And, wearing this won’t make you look like a teenager wannabe. You’re just going to transform yourself into a fresher, younger, and friendlier you….

Gorgeous Grandma
Filed Under Dating | Leave a Comment
Who says seniors can’t look cool and youthful? Hey hey, don’t let ol’ grandma look too old with her classic outfit. Make them as fabulous as you do, with her hippest outfits that she can wear….. without looking too hip in their age.
Colorful polo shirt – Brightly-colored tops for our dear grannies make them look luminous and gives them a positive aura. Usually, pastel-colored tops work for them…. not too flashy…. not too simple….

Stilettos – Instead of wearing a flat, strapped sandals, make you grandma wear stilettos. It doesn’t have to be a high-heeled one, for there are stilettos that are flat, yet still look gorgeous. They can fit for both casual and formal gatherings, so your dear grandma can enjoy this in any occasion while looking good and comfortable.
Accessories – Pearls are the most common accessory for our seniors. Maybe it is because of its sophistication that suits well to them. On the other hand, pearls can be too elegant for ordinary days. I don’t think pearls would be great when our grandma is just going to do some groceries. Beaded accessories can also fit to these grown women. They are hip and modern, without losing its elegance and beauty.
Cosmetics – Every woman needs cosmetics to accentuate their beauty, even our grannies. It doesn’t need to be a fabulous make-up…. In fact a very light one will do the look.

Good Things about Aging
Filed Under Health | Leave a Comment
If you think that aging is all about forgetfulness and being crumpled-face, then you must be doomed to your negative thinking. Aging, for your information, has its own good points too. It may not be what it seems, but if you’re going to think about it, I guess you’d nod your head in agreement…. And “what are these things,” you ask…. then better read this carefully, dear, for your opinion might change.

-
Maturity. People on their aging stage have experienced a lot. They cried, laughed, hurt, and rejoice in every way, and through these moments they learn life’s important lessons. Having an older age does not necessarily mean that you are getting close to your death bed. Instead, it implies that you are becoming more grown or mature man who is strong enough to fight any obstacles ahead.
-
Achievement. Getting a degree, having a family, doing something you really love, reaching your goals…. these are all parts of what you can call your achievement. Most of the time, people who have attained such fulfillment are on their aging years, as some of their goals need some time to be achieved.
-
Satisfaction. Since you’ve matured a lot and achieved a lot, this is the point where you can finally grin with satisfaction. You have all you wanted in your life and you are completely happy because there isn’t anything that you haven’t accomplished.
Feels good to celebrate the aging years, eh? It feels like you can leave everything behind at any moment because you have no regrets and you have gotten what you love. However, there are people, despite their mature age, who haven’t achieved any of the three above. Though growth isn’t measured by age, it still sucks to think that there are those who get old without accomplishing or learning something. So while you have that cheerful spirit in you, make every single moment of your life fun and meaningless for it is so wonderful to get old with all these things in you.

Preparing for Aging
Filed Under Health | Leave a Comment
You’re reaching the fourth decade of your life. There are silver threads in your hair and some lines on your skin. You are getting really older, and the worse part is, you can’t stop it. Weakening body, poor memory, inability to do some fun things…. they are all part of aging. But hey, aging can’t be all gloomy. Of course you can still be happy about it. So cheer up, because these are some ways to make you as vibrant as youth….

-
Be fit. Just because you are old doesn’t mean you are completely incapable of performing some exercises. I bet you can still stretch, squeeze, walk, and jog to keep you physically healthy. Bear in mind that fitness can make you do some activities that require energy. And with that, you can’t be stopped from doing what you want…. even if that means physical activity.
-
Keep a happy disposition in life. It’s not just the physical aspect of you that you have to pay special attention to when you get older. Your emotional state should have a special treatment too. Having a positive spirit and smiling are the first two steps of keeping a happy disposition. Then you can stay optimistic no matter what happens.
These are just two out of thousand things that you can do to celebrate a more mature life. Do this and you will be guaranteed to get older with cheer and joy in your soul. So, instead of moping around from aging, you can welcome it and be happy about it.

Lack of sexual desire. As much as you want to be passionate to your spouse, it is normal for you to be less interested in sex when you reach aging. You lose that kind of desire and just prefers to do something else.
-

Moreover, what makes it worse is that some of them can be triggered by your brain, which can also mean a mental problem to you…. leading you to behave in an odd way. Two of which are Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
