Gifts for Grandpa
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
Gifts. Your grandpa loves to receive gifts on his most special day, his birthday. It’s only a day away and you are still clueless on what to give him. You know that he loves you, but when you know that when you’re unable to give him one, he’d be sad. You rummaged the malls for many times, look for men’s and senior’s sections, yet you can’t still find the best one to give him. “Why does it have to be so hard,” you thought to yourself. Really, you are not a total idiot when it comes to giving gifts, yet it bugs you that it is this difficult for you to get him one (you are such a youngster after all).
Buddy, if you are having such a problem, then take a note on this list and bring it to the nearest mall. I’d be giving you three items that can be a great potential for a perfect gift for your grandpa….

Jacket. If women have their shawls on their back, then your old grandpa must love jacket. As it gets cold outside, he’ll be wearing the gift you give him – with love and with warmth.

Shoes. It’s not only the girls that have fetish for shoes. Men are also sucker for that. Just be sure that you pick his favorite kind – if it’s a leather one, a sneakers, or sandals – and be sure that you get his size, otherwise, you’ll be coming back to shoe racks to get another one.

CDs and DVDs. For sure, your dear grandpa misses his favorite songs and movies back in 60’s and 70’s. In this case, give him his stuff with CDs of his favorite artists and DVDs of his favorite movies. He’s your grandpa, and you are the only one who can tell what he really likes.

Feel-Good Things about being Old
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment

The ticking of the clock seems like a walking turtle for an excited hag like me. It just a few minutes, it will strike 12 and I enthusiastically count every second and wait for the clock’s bell to sing beautifully – for at this moment, I will turn 70. Yes, I am excited to turn 70, happy and proud. Unlike the other hags out there who complain having a wrinkle on their forehead, I am grateful to have such a face – a sign that I am a certified aged woman. This is absolutely not because I am excited to die (God knows how much I want to live). It’s is mainly because I have achievements that usually an old hag like me only has.
-
I have established a great family. I have a loving spouse, successful and married son and daughter, and lively grandchildren. Really, what does a warm mother and grandmother like me can ever wish for. It is already an immense fulfillment for me just by having them.
-
I have seen a lot. It may no longer astound you, knowing that I am about to turn 70, so it is no longer a surprise to say that I was born on 1937. Though I wasn’t mature at that time, I have seen the devastation and the terror of World War II, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and other historical occurrences that can never be forgotten. Aside from these monumental events, I have a fair share of personal moments that I will always remember, making me a better person.
-
I am being taken care of. Let’s face it, it feels good to be the one who is being pampered. You can feel the warmth of love and gentleness of concern when they take care of you. And since I am old, making several movements can already tire me out, so it’s my offspring and grandchildren who do the things that comfort me.

It’s Not Too Late
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
Our white hammock sways as the air blows in its direction. Everything looks serene, with white curtains dancing at the glass door and colorful garden that appears healthier than ever. I sat in my favorite seat and drink my tea while enjoying the scenery. In my 68 years of existence, there are regrets that never keep my sleep quiet, and there are mistakes that I cannot take back. And as I grow older, my will to change my way of life back then becomes stronger; I make every second my life profound, as God only knows the remaining days here.
Just as it sucks to grow old with regrets, it feels good to make it up while doing a thing with passion. If you, my reader, somewhat relates to my regrets and wants to make amends, then it is better to step up at this very moment. Remember that it’s not too late.

Do not hesitate to do something you want. Old age shouldn’t be stopping you to do the thing you want the most. If it is to strut your stuff and dressing glamorously, then do it with heads up. If you want do a an extreme sports, then follow the precautions and ask a professional support. It is never wrong to do such things, especially if it is what your heart really desires.
-
Fall in love. If you lost your spouse and feels like the half part of your heart has gone empty, then find someone that will fill it out. Romance is not just for the young.
-
Make a list of “things you want to do before you die.” I have read several articles regarding this one, where the author incites the things that he/she wants. Make your own list; this will help you determine what you really want in life, and be sure that those things will only linger in the paper.

Preventing Them
Filed Under Health | Leave a Comment
I just posted a blog about dangerous diseases. Those two are certainly a mental problem, also affecting physical and cognitive factors. Writing it brings gives me grin on my face, though I still feel the need to add something there.
So here I am, writing another blog that will trigger the juices of our health consciousness. But this time, it won’t be the main idea of diseases, but rather, how to beatt them.
-
Exercise. The most common and yet the most forgotten routine. Exercise should be done everyday – if that is you want to stay healthy. Moving your body strengthens the muscles and the bones, and keeps the organs working properly.
-
Maintain low protein diet. This is usually applied to those who have Parkinson’s Disease.
-
Orientation. People who are suffering from memory loss should orient themselves with their past memories. Aged people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease has a lack of orientation like time, places, and even the names of their loved ones. With this, before the condition gets worse, they should have their loved ones orient them. And if memory loss is not that bad, self-care can be done.

Dangerous Diseases

It has been 65 years of existence in this wonderful world. I am old and yet I am still alive and kicking. I have certain physical and even emotional problems to deal with, but I still manage to make a big smile everyday. On the other hand, despite my optimism, I know that there are still things that threaten my condition, especially my health. I guess many people at my age relate to my sentiments. Furthermore, there are diseases that occur during the aging stage…. and its manifestations are terrifying….
-
Parkinson’s Disease. I once read from a medical book that Parkinson’s Disease is a “neuro-degenerative disease of the older, related to decreased secretion of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that controls mood and muscle. When an aged person develops such disease, he/she starts to have a robot-like movement. Aside from that, a series of sleep disturbance, insomnia, mood swings, and even depression can be experienced.
-
Alzheimer’s Disease. This happens when a patient’s brain starts to accumulate aluminum. With this, the brain (literally) shrinks, causing his/her memory to fade. Behavioral changes also take place. Alzheimer’s Disease has two years of manifestation.
Writing these diseases can be something that we, seniors, should watch put for. Let this short blog stand as your warning of what you might encounter ahead… when you take your health for granted.

Hassle-Free Roadtrips
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
Getting excited for the long road trip ahead, my father and I pack our things for our preparation. However, this is not going to be a father-and-son nature trip, because this time, it’ll be an extended one, with my grand mom and grand dad joining our nature fun escapades. And since it’s not going to be an ordinary one, we should be careful and take more considerations since it’s my grandparents who are coming with us. We can’t do a continuous journey for that might tire ‘em out. That is why my father and I prepare some safe road trip guide to make them as comfortable as possible:

Make several pit stops. Pit stops are like “breather” during a long ride. It’s not just the driver who gets exhausted during a trip, but also his passengers. Though they are not doing anything, sitting inside the car without doing much can also be tiring. That is why for some moments, a breath of fresh air, short walks, and sight-seeing should be done.
Let the car window down. Instead of using car air con, you can just let the breeze outside soothe you as you travel. It can also make you enjoy more of your road trip with your loved ones.
Have fun. Sing together as the music plays in the radio, recall some good ol’ mem’ries, exchange some jokes, talk about random things - these are just some of the stuff you can do while taking the ride. Since you are being entertained, you might forget about the tiring trip you have.

Food for You
Filed Under Health | Leave a Comment
Heart attack, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, arthritis…. As the list goes on, you are becoming more prone to diseases, and even life-threatening illnesses. This is a part of aging, something that is difficult to avoid. Nevertheless, there are still ways to keep yourself from them as much as possible. One thing is staying healthy by eating the right food….

Veggies and Fruit. Any person can never go wrong for digging into veggies and fruit. It has fiber and other nutrients that prevents you from the risks of high blood pressure, heart diseases, cancer, cholesterol, and even constipation. They are sources of Vitamin A, E, and even Calcium that is good for your eyes, skin, and bones.

Fish – For a grown-up person like you, fish is the “safest” source of protein because there are some meat, like chicken and pork are high in cholesterol level. Of course this is a big no-no for you if you don’t want to be attacked by stroke.

Milk – the best way to keep your bones strong is to drink milk – the source of calcium. Milk products these days are categorized according to age and needs. And some of them are chocolate flavored.
Cereals, bread, and other food that contains carbohydrates and other nutrients are also good for your body. But the three mentioned above should be the priority on your diet list since it aims for the betterment of the condition of the older.

Reminiscing Your Moments
Filed Under Insurance | Leave a Comment
Bobby is that small kid with a blond hair, while Andrew is the older brother, a brunette one. As your grandsons run toward you, you doubt yourself if it’s Bobby who is the blond kid…. or maybe it’s Andrew….
Such case is called a memory gap, an inevitable and unfortunate occurrence – a sign that you really are getting older. It’s such a poor thing for you forget something dear to you, despite the thousand tries you did just to remember a thing.
To save you from this, a nice recollection of the past will be the answer to you. On the other hand, as what has been mentioned, it can be hard as you grow older, so there are some simple techniques for you to make reminiscence easier….

Keep track. Have a daily record of your activities in your diary or journal. Write the things you do with your loved ones and jot down some of your thoughts. And to make it more fun, insert some images and decorations to make it eye-candy. By doing this, you can just go back to the old pages of your journal to recall previous events.

Take pictures. Preserve your photographs in an album or in a scrapbook and write some notes about it.

Have a sentimental collection. A lot of sentimental people do this. They collect random items present during a special event that will remind them of it. It can be a candy wrapper, concert tickets, ribbons, candles, etc. Then they secure them in a “memory box” as part of their sentimental collection.
These techniques can help you out in remembering things. While memory gap keeps you from knowing who really is that blond grandson of yours, you can recall important events by following them. For sure, the next time you meet your grandsons, you’d know who is Bobby and who is Andrew.

Rekindling the Romance
Filed Under Dating | Leave a Comment
You used to be a romantic couple who cuddle in front of the fireplace and exchange sweet little notes in the most surprising manner. Your lives centered on each other… nothing could separate you…. But wait…. those romantic hugs suddenly vanished into thin air…. those sweet notes just disappeared. And there you were, realizing that you’re getting older, without that romance you used to share….
What went wrong????
The love is still there, no secret love affair, you have free time for each other…. but you just don’t seem to spark that romance. Well, that loss of spark can be a factor of aging. It is normal for those couple who are getting older to lose interest with their partner despite of their attachment. But hey, that doesn’t mean that a lost romance can never be found again. There are still ways to rekindle that spark….

-
Dine together. Cook your hubby his favorite meal. Prepare your wife a nice candle-lit dinner. Well, it’s not really that important as long as you dine together. When you sit in a table sharing the same meal, that will start a little conversation until it creates a spark between you.
-
Go out. Have a date like the way you did when you were still sweethearts. If you used to watch a movie and have an ice cream after, then do it again. This will give you some reminiscing on how you spent time each other back then.
-
Have a heart to heart talk. If you are disappointed with your current situation, then talk to him/her. Explain your side and maybe, he/she might be feeling the same way. Compromise. Then, try to work things out together.
