Their Gifts

As it rains cats and dogs, I let out a heavy sigh from being forced to stay inside. It’s our schedule for our picnic in the park today, but thanks to this rain, we are stuck in our home. Getting irritated from this ennui, I decide to take a look at my memory box, hoping that it will ease it, by reliving my past memories.
The first thing that catches my attention when I open my precious box is my white purse. I hand it to myself while the events become quite fresh in my mind. It was my birthday and that beautiful purse was given by my granddaughter. She knew I had this huge interest for purses, so she saved all her allowance just to get the best one for me. I was overwhelmed; the gift was great but it was the thought that really put me into vast gratitude.
There are other items inside my box that revives good ol’ memories, most of them are gifts from my birthday:
-
Shawl. A gorgeous accessory against the cold. This is usually worn by grannies like me, and sometimes, it can also be spotted by middle-aged women for fashion purposes. This was a gift from my son, who was generous enough to give me various kinds – with different colors and styles.
-
Books. I have always been a bookworm. I love gluing myself in the pages of a fiction masterpiece where I can, despite my old age, run my imagination like an insane adventurer. And yes, reading books are best done during rainy days like this and indoor fun.
-
Massager. A gift from my daughter. She is quite skilled in physical therapy, knowing how to spot my pressure points and make me feel good after her massage. She does her warm massage everyday, but recently she has been busy with her work. Knowing that she might miss her daily massage on me, she decided to give me a massager. Well, it’s not as good as her massage, but it has the same purpose to make me feel better.
It has been a year since that birthday. And as I get carried away with my wonderful recollection, I realized that it’s only a month away for my next birthday. Being thoughtful as they are, I am certain that they will give me a bunch of gifts like they always do. While I honestly love receiving gifts from them, I am always thankful for being blessed for having such a fantastic family.
