I found a rather interesting story over the internet and thought that it was pretty amusing considering the fact that most seniors love to travel. Well, I won’t hold you off for long. Enjoy this joke!

A travel agent looked up from his desk and saw an older lady and an older gentleman peering into the shop window, where there were posters of glamorous destinations around the world. The agent had had a good week, and the dejected couple looking in the window gave him a rare feeling of generosity.

He called them into his shop. “I know that on your pension you could never hope to have a holiday, so I am sending you to a fabulous resort at my expense, and I won’t take no for an answer.” He took them inside and asked his secretary to write two flight tickets and book a room in a five-star hotel.

The older lady and gentleman, as could be expected, gladly accepted and were off! About a month later, the little lady came in to the travel agency. “And how did you like your holiday?” the agent asked eagerly.

“The flight was exciting, and the room was lovely,” she said. “I’ve come to thank you. But, one thing puzzled me. Who was that old guy I had to share the room with?”

I have heard of scams that are less predictable but this one is by far a very classic scam that targets mostly the elders and catching them with their hands tied.

There is a leak recently to the Lakeland police detectives that a telephone scam has been lurking around their area and targets the senior citizens. The scam begins when a person calls and poses as an immediate relative who is in deep financial trouble due to gambling debts. He will then request to meet the person at a location where in the money will be brought. He will add some flavor to the scam by saying that certain bad guys will go after him if he is not able to pay them off. Being the loving and passionate people that elders are, they will soon fall prey to this scam.

Later on, they will end up losing money to a scam artist who will then disappear out of the blue.

Let this be a warning to senior citizens. This may be an old and classic con act that scammers pull off but there are factors that can lure you to make them believe that they are your legitimate relatives.

The East coast is currently posing a huge threat due to the ongoing heat wave that has been striking the area. It seems like hell went up a notch and hit the east coast by storm.

Most of the victims of the heat ware were senior citizens. It has claimed the lives of 17 people already. In Philadelphia, 8 people have died due to heat related causes in the past four days. 6 people died in New York and 2 in Maryland. Among the 6 people who died in New York were elders and were found inside their homes.

The region has already suffered through high temperatures that range above 90 degrees from Saturday to Tuesday and poses a scare to most people especially the senior citizens.

One of the best tips is to heighten up the airconditioning system or stay in cool places. As much as possible avoid direct contact with the sun. If you have nothing to do outside then stay indoors and find ways to cool yourself up like drinking lots of cold beverages and taking a bath.

When it comes to sex, researchers at the Kinsey Institute said that older men have different views than their younger brethren. It suggested that the change in the quality of every man’s erection changes his view towards sex. For some, there is a shifting focus to the partner and her sexual enjoyment. Older men become more careful in choosing their sexual partners as compared to young men. There are a lot factors that they consider as well which include the scent of a woman, their intelligence as well as men’s erection and desire.

Sexual history of women also matter because younger men find them threatening because of “measuring up” issues but then those women are more arousing to older men.

While there are many speculations regarding sex. The best thing to do is to always keep safe whether you are an elder, an adult or in your teenage years.

It is understandable that the economy is going down and that people would want to get money as soon as possible. The thing is, some would rather steal money than earn it fair and square.

A 21-year old guy named Daniel Hixon is now in jail for exploiting a disabled senior citizen and threatening him that he would hurt him if he did not give money. He stole about $100,000 in cash bonds, jewelry, vintage wine and other items from the victim.

Let this be a lesson to those who think that senior citizens are easy targets for crimes. If they can’t defend themselves, then proper authority will be there to hunt you down. Look at what happened to Hixon. If he did not commit such crime, he could’ve been earning money at a decent job.

I found this funny note while browsing the internet, I thought it was quite humorous. Especially the PS part.

Have you ever heard of chair volleyball? If you have watched a game in any senior or community center in the greater Cincinnati area in the past few years, then most likely, the net that you are seeing was made by senior citizen, Elwood Michaels.

He was recently recognized in Columbus for his accomplishments when he was inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. He was one of the 12 inductees this year.

He spent most of his young life as a sales engineer. He said that what Ohio gave him was a sweet offer and he humbly said that there are many out there who were more deserving.

Senior citizens began playing chair volleyball in Sharonville Recreation Center in 1999. The net was so shoddy according to Michaels and so what he did was he built a different net. Since then, they called him as the Father of Chair Volleyball.

This is a great achievement if you ask me. This way, seniors can enjoy the game much better. What he did was no small peat.

Just two days after her birthday, the 99 year old Cordelia Robertson received the notice that she will be evicted from the assisted living facility where she stayed for a decade.

This facility, Franklin House has exhausted her life savings of about $330,000 for over nine years of stay. Her rate at this place was at $149 per day. The main reason of the facility was that Cordelia Robertson owed them thousands of dollars.

Just when she got no money and was about to enroll in Medicaid, a government program that funds health services for low income people, the facility went out slamming the notice. This summer, they did not want more Medicaid patients. Their main reason for this was the fact that they do not make much money from these type of patients as compared to those who pay privately.

Her son, Gene Robertson believes that this is not a fair treatment. He said that if her mom was to fight for them, then he will do the same for her even if there are times that she could not even recognize him because of minor dementia.

Gene knew that this was going to happen at some point because sooner or later, his mom will be able to max out her savings so he kept talking to the manager repeatedly about this situation. He was however reassured every time that if they enroll in Medicaid, it will just be like a seamless transfer. The manager even assured that his mother would get to stay in the same room. With this assurance, they kept renewing the contract.

Since last September, Cordelia ran out money. She was arranged to enroll in Medicaid but then the company would not accept. Each month since December was a debt and it sure grew a lot bigger.

Just this year, Gene testified before the Legislation about his mother’s situation. A bill was then signed into law saying that if a certain facility wants to terminate its Medicaid contract, it can’t just kick out the clients. Today, the eviction notice was still filed on the account that Cornelia owes the company nearly $20,000.

The battle is not over yet and the family lawyer thinks that there is a good chance that Cordelia would win this suit. Her story is an eye-opener to what might happen to other senior citizens in their respective assisted living facilities.

Here is a doze of  one of the lighter things of being an adult. As age adds up, the way we dress up changes dramatically. More often than not, the things we see are extremes. Some pants are extremely low, some are extremely high.

Enjoy!

When the lights go dim and the music goes loud, it’s dancing time. I could still relieve the memories of my senior prom. All those lights dancing around and I was dancing with probably the prettiest girl in sight (who happens to be my wife now) and the whole dance floor was filled with smiles.

At York High School, the student council made a really remarkable change in the context of prom. It is a senior’s prom alright, a SENIOR CITIZEN’s prom night! It was pretty catchy since seniors well, they are indeed seniors. It just goes to show that it will never be too late to get those dancing shoes up and running again.

It has been the school’s tradition for the last five years and it is still going on. There are bands who play American standard songs, food and a whole lot of surprises for seniors. This is a great way to relieve the memories of high school days especially for senior citizens.
