Just recently, researchers found evidence that combining a drug used to treat arthritis with chemotherapy will help reduce fatigue and muscle wasting that often gives problems to cancer patients.

The drug called etanercept helps the physicians deliver more chemotherapy to cancer patients and reduces fatigue and pain. It increases the patients potential to tolerate higher doses of chemotherapy on a very frequent basis.

The fatigue is an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion among the patients that is not relieved by rest alone. Chemotherapy weakens patients. The fatigue is often caused by the release of TNF or tumor necrosis factor. The arthritis drug blocks the TNF and thus fatigue is reduced.

This is a great breakthrough since it can help physicians cure cancer patients in a much faster way.
