Drug Allergies

Most people do not know that they are allergic to drugs only to find out too late that they really are. There are certain medicines that can trigger allergic reactions in some people. When the drug is taken in, the immune system mistakenly responds by releasing anti-bodies to combat the drug which it deemed is a disease. When this happens, the antibodies will release histamine to try to expel the drug away from the body.

During an allergic reaction, patients may experience skin rash, hives, itchy skin, congestion and swelling in the throat or mouth. More severe reactions to histamines include difficulty in breathing, dizziness, confusion, nausea, rapid pulse, diarrhea and abdominal problems.

If you notice this after taking in medications, it is best that you consult your physician right away. It is also good to know which medications cause allergic reactions so that you can avoid it.
