How to Deal with a Senior

I can be happy for a moment, then be sad after. I can be very sweet to my loved ones for an hour then become irritable to them. My disorganized train of thoughts and very unpredictable behavior patterns can be harder to deal with than a female teenager or a menopausal mother. This is part of aging, and there are changes that even us, ourselves cannot fully understand. But, as far as I am concerned, in spite of this changes and misunderstandings, we, seniors can be dealt in simple ways….
-
Show us concern…. I know, I know, we become silly like children and sometimes annoying like angst-ridden teenagers, but once you show concern for us, we can be dealt more easily…. This is because we seniors, despite our weakening minds, can still spot a concern from others – something that we reciprocate with appreciation and love.
-
Understand us. It’s not our fault that we get old; it’s something that all of us cannot stop. The changes that we have are inevitable so understanding what we are going through should be done. And who knows, you might behave similarly once you get old.
-
Be patient. As I said, some of us behave childishly or foolishly, and it really needs patience in order to take care of us. But bear in mind, that despite this, we can still reciprocate it with love and simple “thank yous.”
Treating us, seniors is tantamount to taking care of people of any age. We need concern, attention, understanding, and even patience from those around us – just like how you want to be treated.
