Health, income security and loneliness – according to Dr. Jeniffer Rouse, Director of the Division of Aging in Trinidad and Tobago, these things are the main concerns of the seniors. As 143,000 old folks live in this nation, that can be the biggest group by 2010, she can’t help but address these concerns for their betterment.

Because of this alarming concerns, Dr. Rouse and her division establish programs designed for the benefits of the old. The Help Desk is a toll-free number that responds to the needs of the elders. This program continuously improves its effectiveness especially that there are seniors who are unaware of this program.

Another program that they establish is to provide income for the seniors where they can utilize their expertise in mentoring and other programs. The better thing about this is that this doesn’t choose a field of profession. As long as the seniors can use their skills in this program, they;d ear a fair amount of income for them.

Housing projects are also established for them. The design of the house and the location are considered in doing this as the seniors’ well-being are being prioritized.

Dr. Rouse has her say about the aim of their programs. “We have to keep a tab on the quality of their lives because they are living together.”
