Some Regrets

Something harder and heavier than aging is growing up with regrets that are never made amends to. I for one, have regrets that I just left behind, losing hope that I could ever take it back. As an aged person faces the death bed, everything becomes more clear in his/her mind – the meaning of the words, the significance of the deeds, the impact of mistakes…. And as the weight of this pain sinks in…. I contend the regrets we can have….

  1. Failed reconciliation. Attempting to reconcile means attempting to fix a broken bond. It’s hard but it must have been harder to get failed when you already tried to make a reconciliation. Issues such as being unprepared for forgiveness or being unable to move on can be considered. But the bottom line here is this:  it’s a burden to die without solving every problem you have.

  2. Unaccomplished task. Starting something that you want is the first step toward accomplishment. But not finishing it? I guess that’s a stage toward failure…. and for heavier impact…. it is a path leading to regret.

  3. Playing too safe. The biggest root or the most common trigger of regret. You are not willing to take risk, so you settle yourself with your stagnant point. You are too afraid to do this, thus, you sit in a corner wondering what would happen if….

They say it’s not too late to make amends to whatever regrets you have. It’s only a matter of determination and courage to take another risk in solving it. And when it doesn’t end the way you want it to, at least you die trying….
