(HealthDay News) — We often say that exercise is good for senior citizens. However, if exercise goes bad, one of the most common injuries is a pulled hamstring. This is very painful.

A simple stretch can actually help prevent an injury in the hamstring if this is done before and after exercise.

Here are some tips in order to properly stretch the hamstrings.

1. Sit on the floor and straighten one leg and bend the other one.
2. Place the sole of your foot of the bent leg against the inside of the straight leg.
3. Lean forward a little bit, extend the arms and touch the toes of the straight leg.
4. Keep the toes pointing upward and the ankle relaxed.
5. Hold the position for about 30 seconds.
6. Switch and perform the stretch on the other leg.
