Using antibiotics

Antibiotics are probably one of the most common medicines that a senior citizen drinks. It will help you recover from bacterial infection but they offer no medical benefit against viruses.
Overuse of this medicines can make the bacteria in your body resistant to the drugs. The medicines will then lose their effectiveness which will make bacterial illness a lot harder to treat.
Here is a list of the illnesses that are treated by antibiotics and a few that do not need the said medicaiton.
1. Colds and flu are caused by viruses. They would not respond to antibiotics.
2. Cough and bronchitis are also caused by viruses but people with chronic lung problems and those who have a cough for a long time may actually need antibiotics.
3. Strep throat requires antibiotic treatment.
4. Ear and sinus infections should first be evaluated by a doctor because some are bacterial and some are viral.
